robbers.jpgGetting your album plugged in Teen People Magazine is flattering, but not the first place an up and coming credible indie band would think of getting a great review. But for the New York City based trio of Robbers on High Street, that review was one of many for their last record, Tree City.

The Robbers are looking to keep the good reviews coming with their latest album, Grand Animals. The band delves into simple but highly addictive 70s leaning rock, with the new record. Formed in 2002, the Robbers came together through lifelong buddies Ben Trokan (vocals) and Steve Mercado (guitar) through their love of Led Zeppelin.

But with Grand Animals, the Zeppelin influences gives away from a very breezy softer rock approach. On tracks like “Kick ‘Em in the Shins” and “Married Young,” the Robbers create a stripped down but relaxing, yet charming quality to their music. Trokan’s vocals carry tracks like the highly melodic, 60s influenced “Grand Victoria.” The further 60s, jangly influence can be heard on “You Don’t Stand a Chance.” The music stays fun, chill and laid back and is made for a summer day hanging out on a deck or porch.

The guys from High Street are out on a nearly month long tour with the Redwalls. The Robbers hit the Magic Stick this Thursday, June 28th. (Tonight!) The band’s tour started with a show in Chicago this past weekend and wraps up July 14th. The band is planning on having additional dates up for later in this summer, but make sure to check out the Robbers for a taste to a 70s style rock throwback.

Robbers on High Street and the Redwalls are at the Magic Stick on Thursday, June 28th. Tickets are available at www.ticketmaster.com, or at the door.
