jmt-sml.jpgMixing the sounds of European style electronica and industrial hard rock, the group VNV Nation has picked up the flag for industrial music as former cornerstones fade into obscurity and middle age. Hailing from Hamburg, Germany by way of Ireland and England, VNV Nation provides the perfect musical soundtrack to any alternative club to your local S&M establishment.

Lead by the bellowing vocals of Ronan Harris, VNV sets out to create a new path for this entertaining but almost forgotten genre in the United States with their new album Judgement, released April 10th on Metropolis Records. Tracks on the new CD, such as the rave friendly “The Farthest Star," where Harris’ soulful voice lifts the song. On the thumping and punky sounding “Nemesis,” Harris’ haunting lyrics such as “Judgement Day is not coming” sounds strangely hopeful , with all the doom and gloom in the news today.

The band has had a slew of full length albums and EP’s throughout the better part of the decade, and “Nemesis” becomes the group’s sixth full length LP. The band has had success in their homeland of Germany, where the band is regularly on the German Alternative Singles Chart. But the band is still looking for their breakout moment here in the States.

The group has toured the States pretty regularly since their inception, and they hope that their latest trip sends them to the next level. VNV started a nearly two month tour on April 7th, and will wrap playing the biggest festival in the desert, the Coachella Festival on April 29th. The group will play Europe in the month of May, before heading back to the States for another round of dates in June.

Coachella should be a good experience for the group to be seen on a large scale, but if you cant make it there; check out them in a more intimate venue sometime very soon.

VNV Nation will be playing St. Andrew’s Hall this Sunday, April 22nd. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster.
