Reno 911!: Miami
features the Reno 911! television show characters but takes place in Miami, Florida rather than the usual setting of Reno, Nevada. The deputies and Lieutenant Dangle set off to attend a law enforcement conference in Miami. They end up the only police force not contaminated by a deadly toxin and must patrol Miami while a search is on for the antidote.
If you like the show, you’ll love the movie. Even if you’ve never seen the show, you could still love the movie. But you’ll love it even more if you watch the show regularly. The characters are their usual selves – incompetent in a totally humorous way. The amount of debauchery that is regularly seen on the show is even more extreme in the film. Many sexual situations, most of them awkward, and lots of drinking that leads to more awkward sexual situations ensue.

An appearance by my favorite character, Terry, played by Nick Swardson, is one of the highlights of the film. Terry is a regular on the TV show; a potentially gay prostitute who is usually on ecstasy or crack or some other ‘street drug’ and who parades around in a half shirt and short shorts while on roller skates (yes, roller skates, not roller blades). Swardson’s portrayal of Terry is always a riot on the show and is still so on film. Another highlight of the film is all of the cameos. There are quite a few major names that appear. The remaining members of the cast of the show The State also all appear. Garant, Lennon and Kenney-Silver were all original members.

What makes the show Reno 911! so funny is the absurdity of the characters’ behaviors and the situations that follow. The same elements are present in the film. There are laughs from beginning to end. There are even three different scenes after the credits – so stay through the credits for that!

The cast of the film was recently here in Westland on the 29th of January. They were here in character at a firing range, “teaching safety techniques.” I hope blanks were used, otherwise people may have been injured.

I recommend that you see Reno 911! Miami. You should walk out of the theater uninjured, except maybe that your sides will ache from laughter.
