kingdom come jay-z.jpgAfter the busiest retirement I’ve ever seen, Jay-Z is back with a new album. Is he talking about his album with Linkin Park? No. Is he talking about nights with Beyonce? No. Hell, he’s not even talking about his efforts in Africa with the United Nations. On “Kingdom Come”, Jay is more concerned with tepid beats and rhymes like “30 is the new 20”. Jay is starting to sound more like a “Desperate Housewives” fan when he makes rhymes like this on the title track.

Jay-Z has become one of the most bankable and reliable rappers on the planet, however, the ass-shaking beats, and flowing rhymes are there, but don’t seem anywhere near as memorable on “Kingdom Come”.

For all the heat the first single “Show Me What You Got” has been taking for not being his best; it came off to me as one of the three best tracks on the album. It has the big sound that many of his hits have, and is a standout. Also, “Do You Wanna Ride”, with John Legend is a laid back track that may seem different from Jay, but still comes off as honest.

By the time you get to the Chris Martin produced “Beach Chair”, you can tell that the “Kingdom” would have been best kept quiet.
