In support of his second album, "Electric Rodeo," Shooter Jennings rocked Detroit Thursday Nov. 16th at The Magic Stick.
The crowd that showed up at the Magic Stick to see Shooter and his band, The 357's, were not disappointed as he played a good selection of tracks from both " Electric Rodeo" and his first album, " Put the O Back in Country" (2005). Judging by the fact that many of the 200+ in attendance were singing along, I would suspect that most were already fans. The highlight of the hour-long set was "Fourth of July," which was worth the price of admission on it's own. In case you've never heard of Shooter Jennings, he's the son of late country legend Waylon Jennings and singer/songwriter Jessi Colter. You might also recognize him from the Johnny Cash biopic "Walk the Line," where he portrayed his legendary father. Shooter may share his last name with an icon, but he's got a whole lot of his own talent. Most songs don't have the old country twang, instead, he jams Southern rock style in the vein of Lynyrd Skynyrd with an outlaw attitude. If you want to check him out live, but missed the show here in Detroit (and I'm suggesting that you do), pick up his live album, " Live at Irving Plaza 4.18.06." The singer/guitarist also hosts a two-hour weekly show on Sirius Satellite Radio's Outlaw Country channel, aptly dubbed "Shooter Jennings' Electric Rodeo." Shooter is also playing at The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino on Friday 12/1 w/ Detroit's own Unkle Kracker if you're up for a road trip to Vegas. Maybe I'll see you there.
