November 18... I’ve had the date circled on my calendar for the last three months. At the beginning of this college football season, I circled that day thinking it would be a day where my beloved Michigan Wolverines would take a butt-whooping just like the Lions do every week. After last year’s 7-5 record, I had no choice than to come into this season a little apprehensive. And after the first two games, my seasonal forecast still hadn’t changed; it was going to be a rough year.
But after a decisive victory against the always annoying Notre Dame Fighting Irish, it was quickly becoming a reality that last year’s Michigan team was a distant memory. The team kept winning, and slugged out more victories, and climbed to Number Two in the football rankings. The Wolverines are now 11-0, and will take on the #1 ranked arch nemesis THE Ohio State University, for a chance at the national title. Now I don't generally sit here and pray to the man upstairs, looking for divine intervention, but this week, I am going to break down and look for some help with sticking it to those egomaniacs in the Scarlet and Gray. So, Jesus, Allah, Buddha, or whatever your name might really be, here’s my prayer to you for the game on November 18th”. Dear Person Up Above, I know you usually don’t get involved in trivial matters such as sporting events, but for this once, would you mind making sure that Ohio State finally meets their college football maker? For the past few years, Michigan fans have had to endure their neighbors to the south ridicule them after loss after loss to their talented, but dirty Buckeye team. You have turned a blind eye to the all of the alleged dirty rumors (that are probably true) that this Ohio State program has taken part in. The Maurice Clarett cover-up that saved Ohio State from NCAA probation in 2003 is a bigger atrocity than being told there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. If this were a perfect world, your national championship would be null and void. For the past three years, we've had Ohio State spitting in every Michigan fan’s face, saying their program is better, when we all know the real truth. I have had to endure ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit’s endless rants about the great OSU team, and his non-sexual man crush on Notre Dame’s Brady Quinn. Well, I am really not sure if it’s a non-sexual crush, but I'll let you decide on that one... Crushes or not, Michigan is due against Ohio State. They have lost three out of the last four years, and one more Michigan loss may have me thinking that all is lost in my college football world. Michigan is 11-0, and ranked #2. It's been almost ten years since Michigan could say that, while Ohio State has been in the running for the national title two of the last three years. It is time for Ohio State to go down, and this would be the straw that broke the camel’s back with a Buckeye win. I am going to be selfish on this one. I want to watch my team January 8th in Arizona for the National Championship game. I want to watch everyone in the city of Columbus and all throughout Ohio to sob uncontrollably as their team is crushed and denied a trip to the National Championship. And most of all, I want to drive into Ohio with my Michigan shirt, and have everyone mumble and be upset with me because Michigan laid the biggest ass-kicking of their lives on Ohio State. Is that too much to ask? After the Tigers' and Pistons' collapses, and just for giving us the Lions to sit through every Sunday, I think you owe us… You owe us big… |
