Another installment of what it's really like to be on the ground in Iraq. It's one person's point of view. What's yours? To write for DetroitBuzz, email editor@detroitbuzz.com Monday morning. Must be time for a haircut. Marines take some pride in their appearance (or so the line goes) and weekly haircuts are a good part of that. The sides are shaved clean of hair and the top is kept shorter than would be appropriate outside of the military or Hair Club for Men. Weekly haircuts here cost $3 for the cut and an extra $2 for the razor shave on the sides of your head. A grand total of $5 (plus tip) for the whole shebang. Not a bad deal at all. My coworker and I headed down to the barber shop late yesterday. Normally, given that the shop lies on the other side of base, we would try and get there early in the morning before the heat of the day takes full effect. Unfortunately, work intervened and we didn't get a free moment until nearly 2 in the afternoon. So with the sun scorching down on the bits of exposed skin we set off for the 1 mile hike across base to the barbers. |
