![]() Evoking thoughts of a modern day version of Sunny Day Real Estate or the Lemonheads, the suburban Detroit band The Silent Years is hitting the road for a fall tour in support of their debut self titled album. Led by Josh Epstein and brothers Jon and Jeremy Edwards, The Silent Years started a few years back, and have recently signed to the Minneapolis label, No Alternative Records. The band is an entertaining blend of indie and catchy rock, full of hooks that have the band getting some buzz in the indie rock circles. The self titled album is lead by the infectious tracks “No Surprises”, which sounds like a Death Cab For Cutie, if only Death Cab decided not to be so bland. Another track, “This Town” is a strong, jangly rock record, while “The Devil Wears Sunshine” brings back memories of great alt rock bands of the past, such as the Pixies or the previously mentioned Lemonheads. The Silent Years released an EP in 2004, titled “Stand Still Like the Hummingbird”. Recently, one of the band’s earlier tracks from that EP, “Make Up” has been used in the new TV show, “Men In Trees”. Let’s hope the song has a longer shelf life than the show is rumored to have. The band’s new record will be released this week, on October 24th. Supporting the new album, the Silent Years is already out on tour, and will remain on the road across the United States through December 2nd. To celebrate the band’s new release, the band will be having a record release party in Ferndale on October 29th, at Gracie’s Underground. They will be playing all of the new tunes, as well as older tunes that their fans will most definitely be singing their hearts out to. If you are looking for some engaging alt-rock that get too heavy on you, but will still leave you very satisfied, check out the Silent Years on the road this fall. The Silent Years’ show at Gracie’s Underground is on Sunday, October 29th. Tickets are available at the door. The band’s self titled, full length debut is available at stores everywhere and on ITunes starting October 24th.
