I was feeling a bit disappointed this year with only three major horror films coming this Halloween and not one that I wanted to see. All there was to choose from were crappy sequels: Grudge 2; Saw 3; and Texas Chainsaw – The Beginning. Thank goodness, or evilness, as the case may be, for Feast. I was able to catch that in theaters and the DVD is coming out this Tuesday, Oct. 17. There's also a lot of horror stuff on TV and some pretty major events. Here's the skinny.

  1. The Scream Awards - Spike TV; various showings
This already aired but it's still airing. Awards are given to horror, sci-fi and comics, including achievement awards for Frank Miller, Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino and Ozzy Osbourne. One award was presented with a crow on a severed finger. There’s also an award for best mutilation. Fun stuff.
  2. Even Scarier Movie Moments - Bravo; 9-11pm, Fri. Oct. 20
This is a countdown of scary movie moments with commentary by horror stars, writers, directors and fans. This is only a two-parter, whereas last year’s was in 5 parts. Last year’s 5-parter precedes this countdown, along with Friday the 13th, Parts 1 & 8 and a countdown of The Ultimate Superheroes, Vixens and Villains, all beginning at 2pm.
  3. TCM Underground - TCM; 2am Fridays
Cult Horror Classics presented by Rob Zombie; this week: Faster Pussycat, Kill, Kill and Mudhoney.
  4. Fangoria Awards - Fuse; 10pm-midnight, Sun. Oct. 22
Preceded by American Werewolf in London, Evil Dead and The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
  5. Horror Film Festival - Palladium in Birmingham, Nov. 17-19
Tickets go on sale on Halloween; films are new independent flicks not previously released in theaters – 8 total.
  6. Fangoria Convention - Chicago, Feb. 23-25

It seems the contributions of horror are finally being recognized. Goody.
