Game Over! Series Over! The Detroit Tigers are advancing to the World Series for the first time since 1984 when they won it all.

Back in 1984 on October 14th, the Tigers being led by Kirk Gibson and Alan Trammel win the pennant. This Saturday, October 14, 2006 – moments ago, the new and improved Detroit Tigers are on their way to the World Series.

With another stellar performance by Kenny Rogers on Friday, the Tigers took a 3 game lead in the American League Championship over the Oakland Athletics, shutting them out 3-0. Going into Saturday’s game, it was going to be interesting to see if we could indeed do a sweep of the opposing team.

With the A’s scoring 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning, I was beginning to wonder if we might not be able to pull off the sweep and complete it on Sunday. Then I realized that I didn’t put on my Tiger’s temporary tattoo that I had done for the previous games or have on my Tigers socks or Pudge T-shirt. The only thought going through my mind was that it would be my fault. I messed with the mojo. (Yes, I am superstitious too!)

Excitement and some relief came with Magglio Ordonez tying it up in the bottom of the sixth. At least I knew that we still had a chance.

When we entered the bottom of the ninth, I was sure that we were going to go into extra innings. I wasn’t sure if I would be able to handle it. Two outs and two men on, with Magglio Ordonez up to bat, I was chanting to myself. “Come on Mags, you can do it, a base hit is all we need.” I watched with bated breath as did all those watching around the world, at Comerica Park and those listening to it on the radio.

With the sound of the bat, I knew it was going to go the distance. It was then that I knew, we were going to the World Series; that we had completed a turn around in this league for others to be envious of.

The thrill of watching the fans at the Park sensing the same thing as the ball went over the wall. The reaction of the Tigers dugout as they ran on to the field. The calls I had to make and the text messages coming in to me. From all over again, everyone was eager to contact and discuss with the Sports Whore. My words to all of them, “WE ROCK!”

All Hail the Detroit Tigers as they wait to see who they will be playing with the Mets and Cardinal just taking on their third game of their series. Who ever it is, BRING IT!!

In the words of Detroit Native, Kid Rock, “There ain’t no party like a Detroit Party ‘cuz a Detroit party don’t stop!!”
