“WOW! AWESOME! INCREDIBLE! OUTSTANDING!” These words were uttered from my lips as the last out was called on Saturday evening. Last week I was talking about how we Detroit Sport Fans have the toughest job in Detroit. This past Saturday, the Detroit Tigers made it seem a little bit easier. Actually, THAT feeling started on Friday after that incredibly pitched game by Kenny Rogers. Again, “WOW!” It was then that you just knew that we were on the verge of something big. Having to check the Michigan/Michigan State score between innings and pitching changes, made the fact evident. TIGER FEVER was running rampant! And it wasn’t only in the Metro area; it was across the state and the country. Having family and friends scattered about, I got the calls and updates. Grand Rapidians were having a ball at the TIGERS, homing their farm club team, The West Michigan Whitecaps. My not so into sports mom was again following the score in northern Michigan with my rockin’ grandma in the Capital City overjoyed as she had followed the team from the beginning of the season. Those close friends over by Big Rapids were having a small celebration on their lake with friends. My Floridian (Who is making his way north this week) was giving me updates on what those in the Tampa Bay were doing. A celebration down there too as word was that Tiger fans and Yankee haters were having a stomp out at Legends Field in Tampa – the Yankees Spring Training field. The girls and I were having a girl’s night and enjoying it. They don’t call me the Sports Whore for nothing. (Really, it’s not bad, it is an affectionate name given to me by family and close friends – all in good fun!) Even the Red Wings were feeling the Tigers high as they beat the Pittsburgh Penguins that same evening with a 2-0 shutout. (And the Wolverines took another win against the Spartans!) Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for the Lions, who were in the Metrodome on Sunday, against the Vikings. 0-5 is now the Lions record. Thank Goodness for the Tigers. Normally, at this time of the year, we are all hyped on our nick name, “Hockeytown” but until the Tigers end their 2006 season, we are all living in TIGER TOWN!! Rock On Boys! |
