Directed by: Jeff Tremaine Written by:Sean Cliver, Preston Lacy Starring: Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Steve-O, Chris Pontius MPAA Rating: R Just how in the great blue hell can you write a proper review on the gross-out, sheer stupidity antics of the wildly popular “Jackass” review? Simple, you cant… The “Jackass” movies have absolutely no plot, no social value and will have anyone over the age of 40 shaking their heads at some of the “stunts” pulled in this movie. Maybe that’s why I love it so much… Over 85 minutes, over 40 different stunts are executed, but mostly botched as ringleader Johnny Knoxville and company up the ante from the first “Jackass”, and then some. “Jackass 2” is not only better and more thought out than the first movie - it crosses the line many of times. One scene in the movie, concerning a horse, bodily fluids and one of the Jackass’ crew consumption of it, was even censored by the studio. This scene had most people in the theatre cringing and squirming. Like that scene, some of the stunts are used as sheer shock value only; such as the fishing stunt where high chieftain idiot Steve-O swims with sharks, only after sticking a hook through his cheek (which could have been more gross than the previous mentioned incident). Some of the stunts are more stupid and humorous, than shocking, such as a totally darkened game of “medicine ball dodgeball”, and a reoccurring skit with Spike Jonze in heavy makeup, pretending to be an old woman whose breasts keep popping out. Some of the skateboard and extreme sports stunts are rehashes of the last movie and TV show, but this is the only down note of the movie. In one of the last stunts, Bam Margera states that “this is the best stunt of the movie”, and he doesn’t disappoint. The skit, also including Jay Chandrasekhar (from Super Troopers) as an irate cab driver who almost kills an unsuspecting Jackass crew member, dressed up as a terrorist. Call it a gag within the gag that works to perfection. The crew even gets actors like Luke Wilson, and rappers Three 6 Mafia into the act as well, as they watch the antics in a mix of sheer horror and glee. The Jackass group looks constantly drunk, as it is almost certain that alcohol fueled most of the wacky ideas that they perform on camera. “Jackass 2” completely raises the stakes in inane fun, and succeeds greatly. If you can make it through the first 20 minutes of this movie without walking out, the stunts throughout the rest of the movie will keep the viewer glued to their seat. In the end credits, Margera looks whipped as he says “God, I hope there isn’t a Jackass 3”. For our sake, we hope Margera doesn’t get his wish. GRADE: B+ |
