Last week, we touched on the CD’s that would be gracing your record store shelves and playlists this fall. Now, its time to stop thinking about what CDs you’re gonna download legally (or illegally), and start giving your hard earned money to the actual bands themselves. Before the deep freeze hits most of the country, some of your favorite bands will be hitting the road and heading to smaller, more intimate venues.

This fall will feature many groups with upcoming releases playing theatre-sized venues, before heading out for bigger tours in 2007. Others plan on hitting arenas throughout the remainder of the year to cap off a big year. Either way, whether you like small clubs, or arenas, there is something for you this fall.

Here is the Buzz’s rundown of the big and most talked about tours of this fall (Detroit date listed in parentheses):

Arena/Amphitheatre Shows:

  • After small theatres tour this past spring, Tool is hitting the arenas from now until October 6th for their legions of art-rock loving fans. But you probably won’t be seeing Maynard with prosthetic breasts - just expect some more of the hard rocking hits that the band has shown throughout the years (September 22nd, The Palace).

  • Aerosmith and Motley Crue will be rounding the circuit for one last gasp this year, before the Crue records their comeback album and Aerosmith takes some well-needed time off. Plus, Steven Tyler will get to show off his vocals after his throat surgery earlier this year. (October 11th, DTE Energy Music Theatre).

  • The Foo Fighters will continue their “Foocoustic” tour, in which the band plays their hits and other material in an all acoustic setting. The Foos will be opening for ancient folk rock god Bob Dylan on his fall tour. They will be touring with Dylan from October 29th through November 8th (November 2nd, the Palace).

  • The Red Hot Chili Peppers will continue their summer/fall tour, which started at Lollapalooza and will end on November 5th. The always unpredictable Mars Volta opens up the shows. Hopefully, the band won’t play as many new songs as they did at Lollapalooza (November 3rd, the Palace).

  • Panic! At the Disco will be graduating from theatres from arenas for their fall tour. One may think that jumping to arenas may be a case of “too fast, too soon” for Panic, but they have to strike the iron while it’s hot. The highly satisfying English cover boys Bloc Party open up the show with Jack’s Mannequin (November 21, The Palace).

The second annual Gigantour will be getting a late start on the other summer metal festivals this year. The Megadeth-led tour will start September 6th, and run through October 24th. Lamb of God serve as the second headliner and will most certainly give Dave Mustaine a run for his money this year (September 24th, DTE Energy Music Theatre).

Theatre/ Club Tours:

  • On the verge of a massive record, the Killers hit the road for a theatre tour before the band hits arenas next year. Their tour will start October 6th, and end October 28th at the Vegoose Festival in the band’s hometown of Las Vegas (October 18th, State Theatre).

  • Like them or not, Evanescence will be hitting the road a day before the Killers, and have their similar theatre run end the day later on October 29th. Sorry, I think I’d rather take the night to sleep instead of listen to them (October 13th, State Theatre).

Even though the haunting voice of Layne Staley is gone, Alice In Chains has decided to tour for the first time since Staley’s death. New singer Will Duvall has drawn mixed reviews from shows so far, but we have to give Duvall a break: its gonna be awfully tough to replicate Staley’s desperate vocals and sound (November 7th, Emerald Theatre- SOLD OUT).

  • Dashboard Confessional will be making all the teen girls cry when they hit the road, playing small arenas and theatres. But the tears of the girls aren’t from sadness, they are just happy to see emo godfather Chris Carraba (October 28th, Eastern Michigan University).

  • The new Limp Bizkit of the pop-punk movement, Good Charlotte, will be doing a club tour before their album hits later this fall. Here’s a message to Joel Madden, lead singer of Good Charlotte: when you start dating Hilary Duff, you lose all street cred that you ever had. Sorry dude… (October 10th, Clutch Cargos- SOLD OUT).

  • Washington D.C. buzz band T.V. On The Radio will be mobilizing listeners with their angry political sound. They will be supporting their new record, out in late September, being on the road from September 14th from October 21st (October 10th- St. Andrews Hall).

Those are the high profile tours that will be hitting the highways of the United States this fall. So, if you get a chance to take your eyes off fall television or football games, go check out a few shows. In case the idea of these shows bored the hell out of you, maybe the shows in the list below will appeal to you instead (AND P.S. If the Motor City Music Conference is still set for September 13-17th in Detroit, let us know. We don’t have a clue what’s going on with it):
