Dear Vince McMahon (or Mr. McMahon as you’re commonly referred to on TV): Two weeks ago I attended a taping of your show WWE Smackdown. I’d like to commend you on a job well done. Thanks to your show I was able to finally see that the product you offer is no longer interesting or profitable, which explained Joe Louis Arena’s empty seats and low noise level. Your so-called stars were unable to generate any type of reaction from the crowd, other than the occasional boo and cheer. This must not have set too well with you considering that we were on TV, but it’s merely a sign of how low professional wrestling has sunk in recent years. Your so-called brand of sports entertainment has been on the decline for some time now, yet you continue to market the product as though it were enormously popular. I don’t know which is worse – the audacity to charge as much as $60 to see a bunch of no named stiffs take on underutilized talent such as Matt Hardy, or our own foolishness for going along with the sham. You should feel ashamed for forcing fans to sit through an extra hour of the reincarnated ECW, an ECW that’s a far cry of the original. I don’t think you realize the amount of disbelief fans have in not only your product, but in you as well. From redundant storylines to incompetent characters, you’ve committed the ultimate entertainment crime - you’ve failed to challenge our imagination. This doesn’t seem to bother you, but sooner or later fans are going to grow tired of your shenanigans and abandon your product altogether. If I come off a bit harsh it’s because I’ve been a fan of wrestling for over a decade and quite frankly I’ve seen better days. I wish this mattered more to you, because if it did, interest in your product would be evolving instead of dissolving. If you don’t recapture the magic that has been professional wrestling, there’s no chance in hell (loads of pun intended) of me attending Wrestlemania 23 when it comes to Ford Field next spring. |
