What would make a band leave the desolate region of Southern Illinois, for rock and roll stardom in Hollywood? Well, for most people, it wouldn’t take much.

When brothers Ben and Steve Tegel headed out to Los Angeles, the two would form The Vacation, the newest band trying to get off the always wild Sunset Bouvelard, and hit the masses of America. The group’s brand of garage rock with a hard rock twist, gives the band an appealing, toe tapping type of sound.

On tracks such as the fiercely fun lead-off single “White Noise”, and the riff-heavy (and interesting title) “Destitute Prosistutes”, the Vacation are building a wall of sound that will should break them away from the Strokes/White Stripes sounding bands of the genre. Guitarist Steve Tegel gives the band a gritty sound, while singer Ben Tegel bounces back and forth vocally from bands like The Hives, and even as hard rock as Buckcherry.

In songs from their self-titled album (American Records), the band pulsates through tunes such as “Hollywood Forever”, and “Trash”, which may be an ode (or an insulte) to their newly adopted hometown.

The band has been touring extensively throughout the year, on a string of dates across the country. The Vacation are primed to go, after a winter tour with up and coming band Living Things, and a spring tour (which brought them to the Lager House in Detroit back in May). The band has also graced the cover of hard rock magazine Revolver and mainstream music mag Spin Magazine.

The band hopes to gain some notoriety through their spirited major label debut. Who knows; The Vacation could be gracing the covers of these magazines sooner than later.
