"Looks like your Pistons are struggling tonight" were the first words of stage banter uttered from lead singer Maynard James Keenan during Tool's overly sold out show at the Fox Theatre. This show came in the midst of their club tour supporting their new top selling record "10,000 Days". The loud and raucous crowd of 5,400 saw Tool do anything but struggle during their short but poignant 95 minute set.

Complete with a backdrop of LCD screens of inkblots, and videos from the band, Tool came out with the 11 minute opus Rosetta Stoned to open the set. Along with guitarist Adam Jones, drummer Danny Carey and bassist Justin Chancellor, Keenan came out and and brought the crowd a dark and moody vibe throughout the set. The group kept the set to mostly hits, with rock radio smashes "Stinkfist", "Forty Six and 2" and "Schism" played early on in the set. About midway through the set, the band ripped into their first (and probably biggest) hit, the seminal "Sober". With the hits filled set, the crowd sang or screamed to most of Keenan's lyrics, which caused Keenan to note the craziness and rowdiness of the crowd at the usually serene Fox Theatre.

Only a few new songs were covered, with the first single "Vicarious" and the track Jambi, which featured great guitar work from Jones (who barely made the show, delayed on the same flight as this reviewer was back from LA).

By the set closer "AEnima", the crowd had been satisfied, but you get the feeling the show could have gone on another 15-20 minutes longer than it did.

For the crowd who paid 66 dollars (and various others who paid as much as 230 dollars through scalpers), it seemed a little light on time, but knew the band didnt use any filler songs tonight.

But dont worry folks; if you missed this show, the band will be back in the early Fall for a big arena tour to play what should be a once again solid set.
