If only Buckcherry blazed out of the gates with their new album as well as Bullets & Octane did, I would be sitting here raving about Buckcherry, but I’m far from doing that. Bullets & Octane’s In The Mouth Of The Young serves as the forerunner of grimy, dirty rock and roll in 2006. Produced by Helmet visionary Page Hamilton, In the Mouth of the Young is a 12 song return to the punk-infused rock that bands like Social Distortion took to glory. This exciting and energetic band is led by singer Gene Louis, who croons like Mike Ness, and growls with the intensity that is lacking from a lot of rock bands these days. But don’t stand too close, by witness at a recent show; his projectile spitting technique could probably win him an Olympic medal, if there was a sport for that. With tunes like My Disease, Save Me Sorrow, and Cancer California, Bullets and Octane don’t try to hit you with a ballad for the sake of mass radio play. Their sizzling guitar work from James Daniel, along with bassist Brent Lawson, gives you the feeling of being at the Whisky on the Sunset Strip. Even though they’re from Orange County, don’t mistake their sound for the big guns out of that area (Avenged Sevenfold & Atreyu); Bullets & Octane may have the old school sounding guitar work, but you wont see the emo-leaning tendencies from singer Louis. If you missed their vibrant and loud set at the Shelter recently, don’t worry. Bullets will be opening for Dave Navarro’s new band, the Panic Channel, in late May at the Magic Stick. Maybe they can tell him to stop hosting that Rockstar show. Bullets & Octane w/ The Panic Channel- May 30th, at the Magic Stick. What do you know about this band? Talk with others about B&O on the Message board. |
