Miss Single is ready to play!

It's official ladies and gentlemen. Springtime is here. I've started wearing the official springtime yellow rain jacket (hey, you never know when an April shower will want to wet down this May flower). The temperature has made it to almost 70 degrees. We have entered daylight savings time. AND most importantly, on Sunday, April 2nd the baseball season officially began with the White Sox smearing the Cleveland Indians.

In order to commemorate the official beginning of springtime, my friend Kat and I decided to attend a class to help us prepare to get back in the game. The class was called Flirting for Nerds and it was held at what I think is now my favorite sex shop EVER - Early To Bed. Besides a tittilating array of toys and harnesses they also offer a large array of female and lesbian related porn as well as a number of classes and seminars. The Flirting for Nerds class had about 10 people (or "nerds") enrolled and was lead by an adorable and saucy girl named Rebecca. Who would have ever thought that learning to flirt while surrounded by plugs and gags could be so easy and relaxing?!

Rebecca went over the different approaches people can take to begin flirting as well as explained the different levels and intensity of flirting methods. I was seriously amazed by the reaction of the participants - women who were just very intense and unable to relax and flirt (yet they were fine in large group situations) and the men who were very insecure and had very little social skills. It was like these men had either been bullied their entire lives or they are still virgins. The girls were the type who always had lots of male friends, but were always looked past when it came to dates. The class was a lot of fun and I think that I was able to play matchmaker between two nerds in the class. I hope that some of them took away something from the class something... if anything just to realize that if they want to pick up a girl, they need to change.

Okay fine. Attack me for saying it, but seriously, if you have some major character flaws that are impeding you from having the life or lifestyle that you want - for chrissake, take a look at yourself and make some changes. As Rebecca said, Nerds should be the best flirts because they are very well rounded people who spent a lot of time self-reflecting growing up because of their nerdy background. Nerds are people with passions and have been exposed to different areas such as theater, science, sex, and the like. People, what we need to realize is that in order for us to be successful flirts, we need to relax and play the part. We need to embrace our nerd tendencies and make them work for us – exploit your strengths!

After the class, Kat and I headed east to Andersonville for some drinks at Simons. We decided that we should use at least one trick from the class in order to possibly help us set up for our Bad Girl Summer ’06. All I have to say is that you would never believe how much attention you can get from people if you say things like, “We need a drink. We just came from a flirting class.” Then when people don’t believe you, bust out the handouts and have a good time laughing and comparing notes. So much fun. People kept trying out different flirting techniques on us and I ended up making out with a photographer against the jukebox. Kat ended up giving a guy her number and I ended up in an early morning nude photo shoot. Not bad for a Tuesday evening in April!

It’s a little late in the season, but spring training for Bad Girl Summer ’06 has officially begun!

Stay tuned for Miss Single USA’s review of speed dating…
