Already a fixture in the Detroit music scene, the Grosse Pointe based Bump has been seen playing out in many venues around town, ranging from to the Magic Stick. The group is looking to make a big splash with their upcoming release “Incredible Consequences”, due out in stores May 2nd, but available at the group’s shows now.

An interesting blend of 80’s style synth, Pink Floyd-esque psychledia, and a hint of roots rock, Bump provides a fresh take on those sounds, and creates a refreshing sonic landscape. Led by soulful dual lead singers Yorg (we don’t know if that’s his first or last name) and Chris Steer, the four piece band excels at mid-tempo tunes such as “I Must Say”, and “The More I See”. The synthesizer work by Yorg and bassist Eric Novak mix the early 80’s new wave moments, with a dash of the throwback sound that made Floyd and King Crimson well respected artists.

On tracks such as “Last Chance” and “Antidote”, the group provides a mix between their roots rock lean and a jazz lounge style jam. With those songs, drummer Clint Carpenter provides the backbone for the strength of those tunes.

The band has hit the stages of the recent Motown Winter Blast (and had to put up with drunk Steeler fans), as well as the Labor Day Pontiac Fixture of Arts, Beats & Eats. One of the band’s biggest dates will be Friday, April 14th, when the record release party for “Incredible Consequences” will be hitting the Majestic Theatre.

With “Consequences”, Bump is looking to be the next big name out of Detroit, and from the sounds of the albums, festivals like Bonnaroo would be crazy to pass them up.
