A critical darling in their native Seattle since their inception in early 2004, the Cops have been mostly hitting venues in the Pacific Northwest. Now, with their debut full length release, Get Good or Stay Bad, the quartet seeks to spread their old school punk styling past the land of Microsoft and Seahawks.

Before groups like Blink 182 and Green Day called themselves “punk” (which is a weak association at best), groups like the Clash and Buzzcocks ruled the punk world with aggressive and overtly political lyrics, making big noise in the underground scene. The Cops seem like a throwback to this era, but add sprinkles of reggae into the mix as well. Led by singer/ guitarist Mike Jaworski, The Cops keep the indie garage sound intact, but avoid the trendy “garage” sound that litters rock radio these days.

The 12 track “Get Good or Stay Bad” stays within the punk constraints, of loud and quick tunes that sink in quickly. With tracks like “t.v. lieyes” and “We Are the Occupants”, the band takes a message of corruption in the media and politics and spells it out very directly for the listener.

The band mixes old school with an early 90’s alternative feel on songs like “Lowdown”, and “Don’t Take it Personal Dave”, which keeps the song structure simple, but catchy.

Their punk ancestors would be proud of the minimalist, but tried and true punk formula that the Cops have stuck with. Poignant and full of attitude, “Get Good or Stay Bad” gives the Cops a chance to have their voices heard well beyond Seattle.

The band will be embarking on a month long promo tour starting March 9th in Seattle. The Cops will be coming to Detroit on March 29th, when they head to the Lager House.
