Have you ever heard the phrase "you think you know, but you have NO idea!"

From a guy who has been playing music in bars for about 9 years perspective: The day you DJ an entire night with over 1000 people in front of you is the day you can combat the music selection of the bar "DJ". Once you have heard 55 girls say, "This song sucks, play Usher 'Yeah'!" you would give in too. I suggest you try it. Just once.

I've played progressive techno at a club in Mt. Clemens in 1995 or 96 for about a month...all new tracks...stuff they were playing in New York and Europe...and no one would dance. Then I would play "Stayin' Alive" and the place would go nuts. It drove me nuts. I have since been with the Post Bar chain every weekend since and it's real easy to look from the outside in.

Trust me, do you think for a second that I enjoy those songs? Do you think I play "Livin' on a Prayer" in my car over and over again? The bar is an experience, and when people go to certain bars, they want to hear certain music. At Space they want to hear drum bass techno and at the Post they want to hear the Post classics mixed with some Top 40. The Post is and always has been an oldies, know every word of every song all night long bar. That is why it has been as successful as it has been. It's like going to Cancun and dancing to YMCA. Why do we do this? Because we know the song. We like familiarity.

And to think that a "guy" is going to change the face of bar music? The bar crowd is ran by girls. 21 to 24 year old girls. Bottom line. If any guys thinks they are going to hear Limp Bizkit or Metallica "cuz it rox!" needs to rethink their place in the nightclub scene.

I suggest this Saturday, you visit the Post Bar Novi, sit in the DJ booth with me and "field my requests". You will have a whole new meaning to the phrase "why is he playing this crap AGAIN!?"
