We’ve all known for years that the Detroit City Council was corrupt. We’ve known for years that the reason for Detroit’s fledgling population and “third world” downtown are due to primarily the City Council. We are all aware that certain members of the City Council are about as crooked as they come, but they are about to do the worst thing in the history of Detroit, Michigan.
And I quote, “A majority of the Detroit City Council wants to implement an economic development plan it commissioned for $112,000 that preaches racial isolation and rails against immigration in its bid to gain economic success for poor blacks. The crux of the plan is the creation of a business district -- dubbed African Town -- that would be funded in part with city money and made up of black-owned businesses catering to a black clientele. The report also complains that immigrants from Mexico, Asia and the Middle East are stealing resources, jobs and other opportunities from blacks and calls on city leaders to stop the economic shift. The report does not call on the city to stop immigration -- and the city wouldn't have any power to stop it, even if it wanted to -- but the report does call on the city to level the playing field between blacks and the newcomers who it says are economically surpassing them.” Now where do I start? Honestly, where do I start? I could rant and go-on about how racist this is. I could spout off on how Asians, Mexicans, and Middle Easterners families have worked their fingers to the bone to provide flourishing businesses for their current generations. I could go on and on about separating a race for whatever reason is racist. But you know what, I am not going to. The simple fact is how sad it honestly is that they actually APPROVED this. As my father would tell me as a child, “You made your bed, now you LAY in it” bodes perfectly well for the members of the City Council. How can they expect any business from any other race to do business in the city without receiving concessions? Now Kilpatrick knows if he is to have ANY future in politics, he will run as far away from this as he possibly can, and probably will. On that note, I have never been more ashamed to be a part of the Detroit Metro area as I am right now. If we are ever going to preach equality and racial harmony to our children, how do we explain this? If Detroit is EVER going to rise above and be a booming Metropolis as it once was, how can it with things happening such as this? Bob Waltenspiel usually doesn’t complain or whine, but this story drove him over the edge.
