If you have ever had fantasies as a child about being in a far away land and doing magical things, than this movie is for you. Even if you don’t have those fantasies anymore (except when you are at work and wish you were in a far away land) this movie is still for you. Before I go into how wonderful the movie was let me first say that you cannot compare this movie to any of the Lord of the Rings movies, even if that’s your first instinct. This movie was not meant to be like those. You have to have an open mind and place The Chronicles of Narnia in a slightly different category.

This adventure is about 4 children during World War II who must leave the city to go to the country side till the war is over. They end up staying at a huge house owned by a mysterious professor and his live in housekeeper Mrs. McCreedy. The youngest child, Lucy, hides in a large wardrobe during a game of hide and seek, and walks into a mystical world called Narnia. All 4 children end up going into the land of Narnia and embarking on a scary yet exciting adventure to fulfill the prophecy of the land.

I have to admit that I had semi-low expectations for the movie, but when I walked out of the theatre I was very pleased to have seen it. The graphics in the movie were so well done, that you couldn’t distinguish who was human and who was generated by a computer. The interaction between human and mystical characters was so real that you couldn’t help but wonder if one of them would be outside your car waiting for you after the movie. But, there were some real cute and cuddly little creatures, such as the beavers, who bring the humor to the movie. The violence in the movie was a little much for a PG rating. There was a big war scene that had a lot of violence that maybe to much for small children. I thought that they could have made the rating PG-13.

The Ice Queen was played by , and I have to say she should definitely be nominated for an award. Her power and evil was very convincing to the point where I thought she might actually be like that in real life. Her wardrobe changes were extravagant and she had a different outfit for each season. I do think she is a wonderful actress and really put her best acting skills forward.

The children in the movie did a decent job, but the best one was Lucy (Georgie Henley) the youngest. She is the only child that actually seemed to be interested in her role as an actress. It is said of child actors that most of them try to hard in their roles and come off being almost fake, but I believed in Lucy and that she really would be like her character in real life. I think that she believed in her role and took it to heart. The other child actors seemed to have misplaced their acting abilities. I thought that each of them could have taken a little acting lesson from Lucy (Georgie Henley).

In the end, this movie is well worth the $9.00. It is one of those movies you have to see on the big screen to get the full effect. The Chronicles of Narnia is a movie for most ages. I wouldn’t take a child under 10 to see this film. But, for adults you can see all of your childhood dreams and fantasies come true on the big screen.
