So I wake up this morning to read that Kwame Kilpatrick was re-elected as the mayor of the City of Detroit. I rub my eyes... Yes, I read correctly, Kwame Kilpatrick was re-elected as the mayor of Detroit. Does it surprise me? Not in the least. Now I am sure the first thing everyone thinks about is that Jackie Currie and her cronies, err, ambassadors, stuffed the ballots to no end. So it was also good to read the FBI stepped in to investigate the absentee ballots. Think about that, Detroit's voting infrastructure was SO corrupt; the FBI had to step in to investigate! Has this ever happened in the history of city Mayoral races? [I'm too lazy to research it]. Per a Detroit Free Press poll - - 33% of polled Detroiters said they would leave the City of Detroit if they could. THIRTY-THREE PERCENT! The city ALREADY loses roughly 2,000 people per month. But now, out of the 700,000 or so left, 233,000 of them would leave tomorrow if they could. So now, if this election stands, Detroit is left with the antithesis of a strong political leadership team. Everyone knows the stories regarding Kwame, I need not reiterate. But how sad is that when the people of Detroit think/thought he was doing a good enough job to re-elect him? So according to Kwame, Hendrix "wasn't black enough to run the city of Detroit". He allegedly actually sent out propaganda stating that since Hendrix had Austrian in his blood line, he wasn't "black enough" (said the guy with the Irish last name). Call me crazy, but I've always thought you judge people on merit and integrity, not on color. So what is the prosperity and racial harmony of the city to become, if deep down, Kwame thinks this way? And how funny is all of this that City Clerk, Jackie Currie, lost 53% to 47%. It looks like all that alleged ballot stuffing simply wasn't enough. How funny would this all be if in 2 weeks, Kwame is pulled from the Mayor's chair when it is uncovered that over 75,000 ballots were turned in by dead people, people who live in abandoned lots, etc. [it wouldn't surprise ME in the least]. I think the only thing I am happy about, besides Currie, is that Alonzo Bates was 17th in the City Council balloting, with 3.1% of the vote. So, in short, it comes down to this. If this election is proven legitimate [chuckle], Detroit you just made your bed. I give it 18-months before the city goes into either receivership, mass exodus, or cuts SO severe, the city will NEVER rebound. How sad is that when we all have to collectively say, "Thank GOD for the Casinos..." What do YOU think? Talk back at the message board. |
