Fall Concert Preview
Page 2
It’s September and summer finally decided to show up, just in time for the weather to start going down the toilet. Meanwhile, bands are starting to turn their attention toward indoor venues after a rough concert season during the summer that left many venues with smaller crowds than usual.

The concert industry will try to recoup by bringing forth interesting bills that will be out for political, and personal, gain. We here at Detroit Buzz will give you an in-depth look at concerts already announced, and ones that are in the rumor mill right now. Please check Detroit Buzz’s concert calendar section for a full listing of fall concerts, and Ticketmaster, to purchase tickets. Here is a breakdown of some of the fall concerts, separated by venue:

Palace of Auburn Hills: After a huge sold out show by Usher on September 11th, the Palace will gear up for many big shows, while celebrating the Pistons’ NBA Championship.

Even though their therapist will not be around, Metallica will be playing with Godsmack on October 1st. Ticket sales for this Metallica tour have been somewhat light compared with past tours, but the show has been selling well in Detroit, so expect a packed house.

Dave Matthews Band & Ben Harper will bring the “Vote For Change” political tour to the Palace on October 3rd. The political focus of the show has kept some people away, with many tickets still remaining. Matthews normally sells out shows at the Palace within minutes of going on sale, so this is somewhat alarming. Also, expect Palace shows before Christmas from Beastie Boys and Avril Lavigne.

State Theatre: The State gears up for another busy season this fall, with many of the modern rock and emo bands opening up shop at 2115 Woodward Avenue. Upstarts such as Taking Back Sunday (November 7th ) Story of the Year (October 21st) and god-rocking, surfers Switchfoot (October 22nd) take their shows to the 3,000 capacity State for the first time.

Also, the 1980’s and 1990’s alternative crowd will be happy with shows from P.J. Harvey (October 14th) Morrissey (October 17th) and the return of So-Cal old school punk rockers Social Distortion (October 28th .) The reunited Pixies will have a sold out house for their November 18th show, the first of two Detroit shows.

In case you really care, or if you are a Juggalo, your beloved Insane Clown Posse will throwing Faygo and bagging on Eminem on Halloween Night.

Rumored shows at the State for the fall are The Used (October 30th) and Auf Der Maur & Monster Magnet (November 19th .)
