Back in November at Cobo Arena, you could sense that Green Day was just at the start of their improbable comeback. The band put on a stellar show, and something was defintely cooking. Ten months later playing to a sold out crowd of 16,000, Green Day was basking in the glory of their second coming. The set list was much of the same material as the band played in November, during the 100 minute set at the Palace. The band launched into the title track from the smash "American Idiot" album, much to the delight of the crowd, which seemed much younger than the show at Cobo. The material from "American Idiot" was plentiful, with "Jesus of Suburbia" played early on. Lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong decidated the massive hit "Holiday", to President Bush in a sarcastic and mocking tone; which surprisingly met with loud cheers in the largely conversative Oakland County. Later in the set, the group played the #1 hits "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", and the somber "Wake Me Up When September Ends"; which the band decidated to the troops in Iraq. It was ironic, due to the anti-war theme of the video for "September", but was tastefully done. Older hits were not ignored, such as the group's breakout hit "Longview", and "Hitchin A Ride". About the only new wrinkle was the indie album cut, "2000 Light Years Away", from the 1992 album "Kerplunk". The band marked the pinnacle of the band's reemergence, and has taken their place as the rock band of the moment. Now, only if we could get them to mix up the set list a little more.... Set List:
