Ok readers. I KNOW this concert was almost a month ago. All I have to say is ... talk to the editor.

Two nights into Oasis’s five date mini-tour of the United States before a fall run back in the States, the once gigantic English band gave a "usual performance" for the band. By “usual performance”, this reviewer means that the band has perpetually sounds like it is “phoning it in” live.

During a emotionless 80 minute set, the band focused in on a plethora of new material from the new “Don’t Believe The Truth” album, but also dabbled in classic Oasis songs spanning their catalog.

The group received thunderous applause from the sold out crowd of 7,300 or so, which filled the lawn seating on the sides of the stages, and even on the back of the hill at Meadowbrook. The band launched into new songs such as “The Importance of Being Idle”, and the current single “Lyla” early into the set, which met with polite applause.

Lead singer Liam Gallagher and brother/guitarist Noel Gallagher are generally very entertaining people on camera, and in interviews, but there was no camaderie and on-stage banter on this night. Barely anything besides the obigilatory “thank you” was spoken by the band the entire set, but Oasis never HAS been a very chatty band on stage, so that wasn't a big surprise.

The fans showed their first real pop of the night when the title track from the 1996 album “What’s the Story Morning Glory” had the British Flag toting fans in awe. Even though the group did look like they were phoning it in at times, they did save some strong material until the end of their set. Some of the older tracks, such as “Live Forever” and “Rock & Roll Star” still hold up very well to this day. One notable omission of the set was one of the earliest Oasis tracks, “Supersonic”, which probably disappointed at least a few fans in attendance.

Oasis saved themselves completely with a strong encore of massive smash “Wonderwall”, the underrated “Don’t Look Back In Anger”, and a decent cover of the Who’s “My Generation”.

Oasis may not have had the most awe-inspiring set at Meadowbrook, but their faithful, straight ahead approach to their material gave the show a little something to talk about.

Meanwhile, Australian rock band Jet gave a 45 minute set, which sounded supiciously much like the CD quality sound on their album, “Get Born”. With songs like “Cold Hard Bitch”, and “Rollover DJ”, the band reminds me of the Stones or AC/DC, instead of an Oasis soundlike.
