Wow…. Wow… Wow… I am beyond words right now. I think I have been left speechless, for one of the first times in my life.
Yeah Right! Word has come down by the court in Santa Maria, CA, that pop star Michael Jackson has been acquitted on all charges of child molestation. I don’t think I need to describe the long backstory as to how Michael Jackson got to trial, and the reasons for it. If you watched any portion of the ABC documentary on Jackson back in 2003, and the subsequent documentaries that followed, you should know the story. Jackson has been acquitted in what is further proof that our American legal system can be bought and manipulated like no other. I can’t watch television right now, but I can only imagine Michael is dancing on top of his limo, to the sounds of his loser supporters, singing “Billie Jean.” Usually, I am willing to give someone the benefit of the doubt when it comes to a person on trial. Hell, I even gave O.J. Simpson the benefit of the doubt for a month or so. And even Robert Blake was another I gave the benefit of the doubt. Even though both these men were acquitted, everyone has a good idea of what really happened in these situations. Unlike Simpson and Blake, Jackson had a “smoking gun” in his case that should have made the jury deliberations about 14.2 seconds long; the infamous documentary on ABC, from filmmaker Martin Bashir. In the two hour documentary, Bashir showed us a mostly un-doctored look into Jackson’s life, that would have even turned the most supportive Jackson fans into non-believers. At one point during the documentary, the following exchange was said: Bashir: “You believe that having a 12 year old boy sleeping in your bed, that is not your own, is normal.” HOLY S&^%! If you don’t know what a definitive statement is of whether or not someone is or is not a child molester, there you go. Jackson peppered the subsequent interviews with similar statements about how spending time with children in bed together is not child molestation. I had to watch that documentary about ten times, because I knew that this was going to be the start of some firestorm for the next few years. I was right. For the supporters out there for Jackson; I am sure you are unemployed and delusionally separated from the rest of society; but you’re happy right now. You get to realize your dream and run with it. It was obvious that the family involved was out to set Michael up, but that is where the agreement with the Jackson supporters stop. The family may have wanted their child to be molested for monetary gain; but do you really believe Michael stopped short of the chance to have the child sleep in bed with him, and do whatever else he pleased? Not on your life. It’s like the ghost of Johnnie Cochran decided to rear his head on Michael Jackson today, and perhaps O.J. and Michael can now swap stories as to how they used their fame to beat the system. It is a shame 12 people could not come together and convict someone who is so blatantly guilty, it’s sickening. Those jury members should be forced to send their kids to Neverland this weekend for Michael’s acquittal party. But hey, if I can have a little salvation from this; it’s knowing that Michael Jackson spent most of his life’s fortune on this trial. He is tainted, and will never have a career in this country, or most countries, again. It is good to know that Michael may be able to walk the hills of Neverland free, but that man may have to file bankruptcy very soon. Somewhere, Paul McCartney has his hand out, waiting for Michael to sell him back the Beatles catalog for dirt cheap. This travesty, no matter how slimy the family involved was, is appalling and is a sign of the weakening faith I have in the governmental branches of this country. It’s sad to say this, but it’s true: If you’re rich and famous enough, crime does pay… Art can be reached at arthatesyou@detroitbuzz.com. |
