Their motto says it all; "There is no place like this place anywhere near this place, so this must be the place!"

Since the 1960s, Roger’s Roost has been the “Cheers” for local Sterling Heights and North Warren residents. Every night is a virtual high school reunion for Sterling Heights High School and Warren Cousino graduates. The décor is something that the cookie cutter chain restaurants have tried to emulate, but in no way can duplicate the hometown hardworking charm “The Roost” brings.

They’ve done a great job over the years making everyone happy. On Sundays (my personal favorite), they have an authentic Polish Polka band staged on the retro fire truck while pierogi and stuffed cabbage are the main specials. On the weekends, be prepared to see Detroit’s great local bands such as The Reefermen and The Twistin’ Tarantulas play in the Rhino Room. During the week you can sing Karaoke on Thursday, play pool on Wednesday, watch football on Monday on one of the thirty-plus TVs…

Community, fun, and people is what brings everyone to Roger’s, but the Pizza has everyone coming back. Everyone in this town brags about Buddy’s, talks about Pizza Papalis, but those people obviously haven’t eaten at Roger’s. It is as deep dish as you can get, and every bit as good as the famous eateries in Chicago.

ATMOSPHERE: This is the quintessential corner bar. This is one of the few places in Detroit where you can sit between an 80-year-old man and a group of 22-year-old girls. There are basically two restaurants here, on the right is the restaurant and to the left, the bar. The bar boasts the giant “Rhino Room” where you can play pool on one of 6 tables, play video golf, shoot darts, or just drink.

DECOR: As stated above, this is the restaurant the Bennigan’s and TGI Fridays of the world have tried to copy. As you walk in, it’s old pictures, classic gas signs, and a curved mirror. Inside you will find everything from old sports memorabilia, to bikes hanging from the ceiling to a vintage 1940’s fire truck. The brick lined floors with the dark wood chairs and tables make for the perfect corner bar.

CROWD: The Roost is the ideal “Vor Spiel” bar (For us Germans it is the place to go drink before you go out to drink). If you go on happy hour, or for lunch, or after 9, expect both sides to be packed no matter the day. The crowd has always been a great crowd, everyone is very friendly and conversations mingle from group to group.

DRESS: Jeans and a decent shirt are fine…there are really no worries here.

MUSIC: From Monday thru Wednesday, the jukebox pumps out some pop and rock music, not the greatest selection in the world, but then again, there is a wide variety of people here to please. On Thursday the Karaoke, albeit cheesy, packs them in from wall to wall.

FOOD AND DRINK: The pizza is killer. Bottom line. The burgers and sandwiches are great too, and the deep fried, cheese stuffed olives are my personal fav.

PICK-UP POTENTIAL: It is not considered a “pick up joint” per say, but it is completely normal to strike up a conversation with those around you. I wouldn’t expect to come here to “work the crowd”, but if you are sitting next to someone cute, it is very acceptable.

COVER: No cover.

PARKING: There is a ton of parking in the back. If you go during the Red Wings playoffs, be prepared to park on the grass on the north side of the lot.

HOURS: 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily.
