Page 1 of 3 I really tried to talk myself out of writing this article. I am of the school that believes if you ignore something, it will eventually go away.
I have my views and opinions that, as my friends know, I am not afraid to voice. However, I didn’t want to write down and publish those ideas because I would then have to admit that I am doing the exact thing that annoys me most, being an obnoxious blabbermouth. But today it happened; the back of my camel was broken. The straw? It was in my mailbox and came to me in the form of Rolling Stone. I received the issue a few days late, as is usual with all of my magazines, because I think my mailman steals them and they spend a few days as his bathroom reading material before they are delivered to me with the cover torn. But that is a different topic. As soon as I opened the mailbox I saw I had a Rolling Stone in there. Who could be on the cover this time? Jessica Simpson? Beyonce? Maybe they put Lindsey Lohan on again? I really hope it’s not the Polyphonic Spree. Maybe it’s some new material, I hear that Wes is back in Bizkit, and Green Day has a new album coming out. Maybe it’s about the current state of rock and how bands like Good Charlotte are ruining pop culture. Then again, it could just be another one of their lame commemorative issues. But I was wrong on all counts; I forgot that Rolling Stone doesn’t actually talk about music anymore. When I pulled the magazine out, I nearly dropped it right on the curb. Everyone knows exactly where the editors at Rolling Stone stand in the current political scene, and it had been especially obvious for the past few issues. Last time, it was a story on the cover entitled “Bill O’Reilly: Fox’s Mad Dog,” one of the most biased pieces of literature since “Mein Kampf.” Below it, a teaser for their coverage of the Vote for Change Tour, “Dave Matthews, Springsteen, R.E.M., Pearl Jam: Bush Must Go.” The issue before that? “The Secret Files of Abu Ghraib,” an expose on the prisoner abuse scandal in Iraq. The issue I now held in my hand solidified everything that I had been thinking. Like a roman candle lit on a dark night, this was a clear signal on where RS stands. And it’s directly to the left. You got it; I was staring a 10x 12 photo of the liberal’s #1 champion himself, Michael Moore. I hate Michael Moore, I’m sorry, but I really do; not for the reason that you’re thinking right now, though. I don’t care that he doesn’t like the way things are being run in Washington. I don’t care that he’s a John Kerry supporter; I wouldn’t care if he was backing a Ronald McDonald / Hamburglar ticket. It’s the way he goes about everything he does. Michael Moore is an obnoxious, rude, annoying assclown. The aggressive, in your face, I demand an answer now, style of journalism that Moore has become infamous for is silly, elementary, and eliminates the credibility of his points that he so desperately tries to impose on anyone that will listen. Just like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, Michael Moore is nothing but a common attention whore. I honestly can’t comment on the Rolling Stone article too much, it was surprisingly objective and talked mostly about Moore’s rise to the spotlight, not about so much his stance on Bush – Kerry. What I would like to draw attention to are the words of Moore himself, specifically |
