C. J. Mahoney’s Sports Grille 3260 S. Rochester Road Rochester Hills, MI 48306 Phone: 248-293-2800 Map It! Visited C.J. Mahoney's recently, just three weeks after it opened. Located on the west side of Rochester Road just north of M-59 in Rochester Hills, the place was hopping, but, surprisingly, not full at 6:30 p.m. on a Friday night. We were led to a booth with its own 13” LCD TV monitor to enjoy—although only two stations were available: ESPNews and CNN. Each of the booths had its own TV monitor and hanging Tiffany lamp. I saw at least six overhead TVs surrounding the centrally situated bar and two large screen projection sets, one on either side of the restaurant. Free wireless Internet access is also available. Nikki, our server, indicated that the place did not yet have its own website. She saw me scribbling notes and inquired why. Mistake or no, I answered truthfully. Thus, I’m not certain whether we received better-than-normal treatment for the remainder of our visit. Neither of us imbibed, although Mahoney’s has five house wines, available by the glass or by the bottle. It also offers an assortment of coffee drinks, ice cream drinks, and specialty drinks, in addition to the typical beer selection. The menu was varied: sandwiches for $5.49-6.99, salads fir $5.99-6.99, $7.99-15.99 dinners, pitas, pizza and daily specials. In honor of Lent, both Laura and I ordered the cod special for $7.49. She had hers broiled, with New England clam chowder, baked potato, and steamed vegetables. I chose Cajun-style with salad and seasoned fries. The meal arrived within 15 minutes of our ordering. Laura thought the soup was great; I enjoyed the flavoring on the fish. Being stuffed from dinner, we passed on desserts, which ranged from $2.99-4.59. Not what I would characterize as a family dining destination, but, overall, not a bad evening’s fare for a reasonable price in a casual, albeit underventilated, atmosphere.
