Rising out of the ashes
of the early emo band The Get Up Kids, lead singer Matt Pryor has not
faded away and moved into the shadows of the music industry. The
singer/songwriter has been busy with his new band, The New Amsterdams,
as well as his more “alter-ego” project, The Terrible
Twos. With these
projects going on, you would think Pryor would have his hands full,
but he also put out a solo album of his own material this past May, entitled Confidence Man. The 15-song album is far more stripped
down than previous efforts. Pryor is armed with an acoustic guitar
and harmonica at times with songs like “I’m Sorry
Stephen” and “I Wouldn’t Change A Thing.” The tracks have been culled over the years and never really saw the light of day until now. But in the months before the release of the record is when Pryor really got going with it. Most of the tracks were recorded only a few months before the late July release. The album’s songwriting is less autobiographical than in the past and mining the material from friends’ bad relationships and so on. Pryor has been on tour since early August behind the solo record. After a short tour with Saves The Day’s Chris Conley and started the current leg August 22nd. The tour will wrap this weekend in Chicago, but makes a stop by the Shelter in Detroit tonight (September 11th). So, if you wanted to see how the ex-singer of the Get Up Kids is making out these days, check out Matt Pryor and see for yourself. Matt Pryor is playing the Shelter tonight (September 11th). Tickets are $10 and are available at www.ticketmaster.com. Additional information can be found at www.myspace.com/mattpryorsongs. |
