After wrapping up a
show in Atlantic City, Ryan Wombacher is enjoying some quiet time
during their tour with Bullet For My Valentine. The Orange County
metal band is road testing material for the release of their upcoming
record Declaration, due out on September 30th.
Ryan and I discussed the grinding long haul of touring and the future
of their record label plans. Here’s my interview with Ryan:MyCityBuzz: You guys were on the road for a long time, how much time did you get off between tours? Ryan Wombacher: Well, we recently figured out we were on the road continuously for almost three years. The last cycle of touring for The Truth was nine months, but whenever we went home, we would be demoing and recording for the new record. We probably had about six months off, but we got the new album recorded in about 3 weeks when everything was written. MCB: What are the major differences between “Declaration” and “The Truth”? RW: I think a lot of the record sounds more epic, the quality of the recording of this album is far better as well. There are live string arrangements at time, and our keyboardist Marta has a bigger presence on this record as well. For me, on the song “Death Anxiety,” I have do some of the vocals instead of the usual background vocals. And the record has a lot of guitar solos- which is a first for the band. The album does have a lot heavier songs, where as with The Truth it sounded kinda poppy to me at times. MCB: What sort of stuff did you want to avoid on this record? RW: A lot of times when you record an album, you get the tendency to rush through the process. This time around, we took more time recording the album. We weren’t down to the wire recording it, and I think it sounds better because of it. We got to do between song interludes, which we wanted to do in the past but never got a chance to. MCB: Out of all the touring your band did, what was the standout tour? RW: For me, definitely the Marilyn Manson/Slayer tour last summer. They were the biggest crowd we had ever played in front in. The crowds were two totally different extremes and we fed off of that energy. We had a lot of fun on that one. MCB: There have been rumors of friction with Trustkill Records during the recording process, have the issues subsided? RW: The situation with Trustkill has been worked out for now. At this point, we are not dealing directly with the label because of touring and other things. It was our last record on the deal and after we’re done touring, we’re gonna decide what’s our next move with the label. MCB: What are the band’s touring plans beyond the tour with Bullet For My Valentine? RW: We definitely won't be touring as long as we did with The Truth, we have this tour in the States. We’ll be back for at least one more headlining tour in February of 2009, and then we’re not too sure what the next move will be. Bleeding Through is currently on tour, opening for Bullet For My Valentine. The tour rolled though Detroit this weekend, playing The Fillmore Detroit. After a date in Mexico City on August 30th, they'll pick it back up in the U.S. on Sept. 2nd for a few dates in Florida. All dates can be found at www.bleedingthrough.com. |
