Any festival that can
not only give OzzFest a run for its money, but knock it on its ass
has to be doing something right. The inaugural run of the Rockstar
Mayhem Festival jumped way out ahead and announced their lineup back
in March, way before OzzFest had bands confirmed, forcing the long
time traveling heavy metal festival to morph into a one-day show in Dallas this
year.
Organized by Kevin Lyman, the man in charge of Warped Tour and the Taste of Chaos, the Mayhem tour brings nearly 15 bands to the stage that all fly different banners of the rock flag, but are united by the common cause. Bands range from the Christian emo of Underoath to the full on metal assault of long time Bay Area kings Machine Head to the Australian party rockers Airbourne. The tour rolls into Detroit as it plays DTE Energy Music Theatre this Saturday (8/09). The show starts at 2pm. Here is a little taste of what you will see: -Slipknot headlines
the show, as the Iowa band prepares for the release of their record All Hope Is Gone, due out August 26th. Corey
Taylor and company are complete with new masks, new outfits and
perhaps some new found respect for each other. The band has stated
that the new record had the least tension-filled recording session in
the band’s tenure. But if severe band tension created their
masterpiece Iowa, we can perhaps handle some animosity.
Anyways, the first singles; title track "All Hope is Gone" and radio hit
“Psychosocial” are any indication, its gonna be good
stuff anyway. -Disturbed pretty much embarrassed Stone Temple Pilots at the Rock on the Range show in Columbus back in May. The band is out supporting their Indestructible record, which doesn’t quite match their classic The Sickness, but is nothing to cry about. -Attention all Guitar Hero dorks. Your heroes in Dragonforce are back with their new record, Ultra Beatdown on August 26th. If you are into long wank-off solos and overzealous and over the top vocals, this is your band. Avoid if not. -Mastodon is road testing some new material on this tour, as they prepare to release their new album out sometime later this fall. You usually can't go wrong with the boys from Atlanta. Might scare your 14-year-old sister in the crowd though. -Five Finger Death
Punch continues their trek across the country as they play the
Jagermeister stage. Click here for an interview with Jeremy Spencer from FFDP. -If the world was perfect, Airbourne would be taking Dragonforce’s spot on the main stage. But you will just have to imagine that as the new school AC/DC plays on the second stage... and kicks the shit outta the old school rockers. -Native Detroiters Walls of Jericho are representin’ the hometown as they hit the second stage as well. They just released their Redemption EP, which mixes their ass kicking side with some more acoustic numbers. Check out www.mayhemfest.com
for a listing of all the bands and set times. Tickets are SOLD OUT. Check Ebay and the parking lot if you don't have tix but want to get in |
