ImageTrying to find some peace and quiet on a major summer tour can be a task, as Five Finger Death Punch drummer Jeremy Spencer already knows. The band is a part of the massive Rockstar Mayhem Tour, which amassed such a good lineup this year that the mighty OzzFest tour quivered and reduced itself a one-day festival in Dallas. The L.A. based band has seen a major rise in the rock world due to their hit single “The Bleeding.” We talked about that rise, some crowds and other things. Here is the interview with Jeremy:

MyCityBuzz: How is this tour different from the Family Values Tour (which FFDP played last year)?
Jeremy Spencer: It’s great because last year on Family Values, it was the band’s first ever major tour so people weren’t too familiar. This year at Mayhem, people know who we are now. We’ve met a lot of cool people and that got to meet some great bands as well. It’s been a great experience because we’re a bit more established now.

MCB: Have there been any surprises for you on the tour?
JS: Yeah, I have been impressed with Airbourne. They’re kinda different from everyone else on the bill. It’s more really metal, it’s more hard rock. You have all these bands and this band comes out of left field with this party music. It’s great stuff.

MCB: Are you happy with the band’s trajectory of success so far?
JS: It’s been awesome to see and happy to see it build so fast. From all the tours that we’ve done to see the size of the crowds getting bigger and bigger, it’s been a fun ride. We aren’t done after Mayhem, we’re gonna go a month-long headlining tour in the U.S. this fall.

MCB: Have there been any crowds that have blown you away outside of Mayhem?
JS: We’ve done a lot of big radio-style festivals with people like Kid Rock, Snoop Dogg, 3 Doors Down that its been cool to see how massive they are. Probably the biggest crowd we’ve got a great reaction for was Rock on the Range in Ohio. The crowd was just amped to see us, and that’s one to take away.

MCB: What do you think the biggest factor of the success of the band has been?
JS: I think our band is writing songs that everyone can relate in the lyrics in music. We try to write what we feel, without trying to make sure we sound too heavy or too soft. It also has a lot to do with the power of radio and the success they and the fans have brought us from the two singles (“Bleeding”, and current single “Never Enough”) brought us.

MCB: When is the band going to record new material?
JS: Well, after the headlining tour in the States, we are going to go to Europe in the first part of 2009. It will be a whole new market to conquer since we haven’t even released the album there yet. I am thinking sometime next summer, we can sit down and record the new stuff.

Five Finger Death Punch will be a part of the Rockstar Mayhem Tour, coming to DTE Energy Music Theatre on Saturday, August 9th. For more FFDP info, check out www.5FDP.com. For Mayhem tour dates, check out www.mayhemfest.com.
