Interview w/ Andrew Tkacyzk of For the Fallen Dreams

As they prepare for this weekend’s Dirtfest and were chillin’ locally, drummer for the Mid-Michigan based metal band For the Fallen Dreams, Andrew Tkacyzk is probably enjoying his days until you know who calls him. The upstart band is out supporting their first record for Rise Records, Changes, that was out in January. Here’s what you need to know about For the Fallen Dreams: After spending most of 2008 on the road: “We’re doing good, hanging in there. It’s been different this time around than touring before, kids seem to be digging the music more than ever before. During this, we’ve toured every state and did a few dates in Canada. And later this year, we’ve got European and Australian dates as well, so the touring isn’t over yet.” On the mid-Michigan scene coming up: “I think it's way different for us now. When we started out, we saw ourselves more as a Christian metal band but we fell out of it. Since we’ve moved away from that, it's been fun playing shows but we definitely take it a lot more seriously than we used to.” On the freedom of writing music: “I think with moving out of the Christian metal tag, it's opened a lot up for us musically and lyrically. Our singer discusses a lot of personal issues and mold them together with our influences over the years, such as Sevendust, Slipknot, and Misery Signals and make something original out of it.” On the band’s work ethic while on the road: “I don’t think we really took tips from any one particular band on the road. We taught ourselves on how to deal with stuff on the road and how to manage shows and drives.” On the band’s upcoming spot at Dirt Fest: “We’ve played Dirt Fest twice before (in 2006, 2007) and this year’s gonna be a lot different for us. We have the new record out and playing the main stage. It’s a great time; it has a mini-Warped Tour feeling to it. It will be good to see some our friends, like the guys in Darkest Hour, Parkway Drive and get to watch their sets as well. The time we’re playing at isn’t too early, nor too late either so that helps us.” About their upcoming recording plans: “We recently started writing the new record and gonna record it in between the tours. We’re hoping to have the new record out sometime in the Spring of 2009, but don’t hold me to that yet.” For The Fallen Dreams’ will be at the Dirt Fest on August 2nd, playing at 7:50pm.
