Metal fans have been
hearing about the Kingdom of Sorrow project since their track “Buried
In Black” came out back in 2006 for a “Headbanger’s
Ball” complation. Since that intense track, the team of Hatebreed lead singer Jamey Jasta and Crowbar guitarist Kirk Windstein has finally taken shape with a self-titled, full length
record. Kingdom of Sorrow first took shape almost a decade ago as Jasta hounded Windstein at a
Crowbar show. But as Hatebreed took off, the idea started becoming
more of a reality for both parties. At first, the idea of
Jasta’s vocals over the sludge metal of Crowbar seemed like an
adventure for listeners, but by listen at the fruition of the
material, it meshed together beyond expectations. Tracks like “Led
To Demise” keep Jasta’s trademark roar, but giving the
singer a new sonic landscape to sing over, courtesy of Windstein’s
heavier than thou riffs. Tracks such as “Demon Eyes” and
“Free The Fall” keep the metal credibility of both
Hatebreed and Crowbar, and treads new ground as well for both
artists. And in case fans wanted to hear “Buried In Black” again, the new record features the song once again..
Hatebreed is sporadically touring at this moment, which is allowing this project
to get out on the road. The tour started February 27th in
Massachusetts, and will be ending right here in Detroit on Friday,
March 7th at the Magic Stick. Dates have not been
announced beyond these initial dates, but it is a realistic
possibility to see more dates in the near future. But you won’t
get too many chances for now to see one of metal’s most talked
about supergroups live, so this is a must see.
Kingdom of Sorrow will
be playing at the Magic Stick on Friday, March 7th.
