FRIDAY
Citizen Cope @ Royal Oak Music Theatre Born Clarence
Greenwood, the Brooklyn soul/funk/reggae troubadour is starting to
get back on the road after a bit of a break. Cope is preparing on
releasing a new album this year; which will be the follow-up to
2006’s Every Waking Moment. Tickets are $23 and are
available at www.tickets.com. Robert Bradley’s Blackwater Surprise @ Magic Bag The longtime local Detroit blues band is back for a new round of shows in the Detroit area. The band is road testing a couple of new songs for an album that will be released later this year. Tickets are $10 and are available at www.themagicbag.com. One Republic @ The Fillmore Detroit The Colorado band is
still riding the waves of their huge hit “Apologize,”
which is playing just about everywhere these days. Now, the band is
trying to work more singles from their Dreaming Out Loud
and is trying to set the pop world ablaze. We’ll see what
happens. But Mr. Katherine Heigl, Josh Kelley opens up the show and
recently released a new album. Tickets are $20 and are
available at www.ticketmaster.com. New York Dolls @ Majestic Theatre David Johansen and fellow original Doll Sylvain Sylvain continue to tour behind their 2006 comeback album One Day It Will Please Us To Remember Even This. The album is a taste of the band’s past, but gives the band a more modern twists on their garage rock sound. Toledo’s We Are The Fury open up the show. Tickets are $20 and are available at www.ticketmaster.com. SATURDAY John Ralston @ Magic Stick - See Spotlight Angels and Airwaves @ The Fillmore Detroit You can't get much more emo than former Blink-182 member Tom DeLonge’s band. The band tries to go for U2-style glory on their new I-Empire album, but ends up polarizing more fans than not. Former Taking Back Sunday guitarist Fred Mascherino’s new band, is one of a few openers along with emo sisters Meg & Dia. Tickets are $21.89 and are available at www.ticketmaster.com. James Blunt @ Michigan Theatre Well, its obvious that “You’re Beautiful” is going to be the pinnacle of his career. Blunt soldiers on with his All The Lost Souls album and keeps his signature piano based crooner going. The album has sold decently well, but nowhere near the sales of his first record. Tickets are SOLD OUT. Check at www.ticketmaster.com to see if any tickets open up before the show. Blue Man Group @ The Palace of Auburn Hills Don’t know if these are the original Blue Man guys, but the noise performance art continues on. Tickets range from $50 to $77.50 and are available at www.palacenet.com. SUNDAY ![]() Foo Fighters @ Joe Louis Arena Finally getting back to Detroit for the first time since a 2005 show with Weezer, the always entertaining Foos are going to make this show easily the biggest show of the weekend. Dave Grohl and company are out supporting their 2007 album Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace, which is a mixed bag of heavy rockers, and 70s style slower-tempo rockers. The benefactor of MCB’s #1 Album of the Year, Against Me, is one of the openers. Still supporting their excellent New Wave album, the Florida political rockers could potentially steal the show. While System of a Down is on break, lead singer Serj Tankian brings his solo project and album Elect The Dead on the road. Tickets range from $25 to $45 and are available at www.olympiaentertainment.com. |
