Image Unless you’re going to see next year’s surefire Razzie hit, Rambo, here are the shows to check out on FRIDAY. We Are The Fury plays the Magic Stick - Probably the hottest thing out of  Toledo since Katie Holmes was brainwashed, We Are The Fury cross the northern border for a show in Detroit. The band has been making plenty of noise in this part of the country with their new record, Venus. The band blends rock with a modern glam twist. After this, the band goes on the support the grandfathers of glam rock, the New York Dolls. Tickets are $10 and are available at www.ticketmaster.com.
If you're in Ann Arbor, the 31st Annual Ann Arbor Folk Festival, which is a huge fundraiser for the Ark, returns to Hill Auditorium Friday and Saturday. The Friday bill features piano man Ben Folds as a headliner as well as Toad The Wet Sprocket. Remember these guys from the mid to late 90s? The Californian band had a string of hits such as “All I Want” and “Good Intentions” that lead that alt-pop charge during that time period. The reunited group will be playing the first night of the fest and lead singer Glen Phillips will do a solo show on Saturday. Meanwhile Saturday evening will feature female folk balladers Emmylou Harris and Shawn Colvin. No worries for Colvin these days, as ‘Ol Dirty Bastard isn't around to proclaim “Wu Tang is for the children.” Both nights at the Ark are SOLD OUT. Check www.ticketmaster.com or stop by the Michigan Union Ticket Office in person to see if any tickets go on sale prior to the shows.

ImageSATURDAY is going to be a busy night. The Magic Stick has Cobra Starship, the band with the title song from last year's campiest movie, Snakes On A Plane, off their highly infectious debut record are back with their new Viva La Cobra. The album quietly debuted in November, but has picked up some steam since its release. The new single “The City Is At War,” along with the first single “Guilty Pleasure,” keep the fun and upbeat side to the band going and is sure to please. Tickets are SOLD OUT. Check www.ticketmaster.com to see if tickets open up before the show.
Rockstar supergroup Velvet Revolver play a huge show at The Fillmore Detroit. Don’t know if you’ve heard the rumors, but this leg of Velvet Revolver’s tour may be the last time you see them for a while. Things within the band seem to be fine, but rumors are swirling that lead singer Scott Weiland may regroup his former band, Stone Temple Pilots, for a summer/fall tour. But before then, check out the band’s material from their solid Libertad album, as well as the old school G 'n R and STP covers that still seem to be the fan favorites. It will be interesting to see if VR decides to head back into the studio after this summer or let Weiland ride out with his old band. Tickets range from $45 to $59.50 and are available at www.ticketmaster.com.
Right down Woodward from the VR show, Editors will hit Majestic Theatre with Hot Hot Heat. Certain members of MCB missed out on a chance to see the Northern UK band during their visit in Washington DC last week (damn place was too small). It was a shame, because the Editors’ lead singer Tom Smith has one of the most haunting and rich vocals in the indie rock game these days. The band is out supporting their An End Has An End record, which recalls groups like Joy Division at many points. One of the class of the alt-rock class of 2005, the Canadian export Hot Hot Heat open up the show supporting their Happiness Ltd. album and is their second gig in a month in Detroit after a NYE’s show at the Hyatt in Dearborn. Tickets are $18 and are available at www.ticketmaster.com.
Steel Train, the New Jersey band that mixes folk, blues and classic rock to create their sound will play the Shelter. They've graced the stages at many of 2007’s festivals and now have a club date in Detroit. The band is out supporting their sophomore record Trampoline. If you’re looking for a mixture of groups like Spoon and flashes of the Arcade Fire, this may be your ticket. Tickets are $10 and are available at www.ticketmaster.com
Also on Saturday, Bow Wow and Chris Brown are at The Palace of Auburn Hills. Yeah, they were just here, but the kids in the northern suburbs now get a chance to see the R&B stars. Chris Brown is so big that he’s had as many as three songs in the Billboard Top 10 at once. Somewhere, Usher is watching very closely with his Chris Brown voodoo doll, while he plots his return. Tickets range from $39.75 to $79.75 and are available at www.palacenet.com.

There are only a few shows going on SUNDAY. The Supersuckers are at the Magic Bag. The long time garage grunge band from Arizona continues on their tour, still out supporting their 2006 Paid album. Tickets are $15 and are available at www.ticketmaster.com. Also, Lenny Kravitz hits The Fillmore Detroit on his mini tour before his new album drops. (See post above.) .
