Giving us a sonic blast
from the past, the local quartet Hotness is gearing up for the
release of their upcoming album, 3rd Time’s A
Charm. The band, formed in 2004, has a love for jangly 70s
style rock such as groups like the Faces and flashes of Aerosmith.
After releasing their first EP, We’re Takin’
Over back in 2005, Hotness spent much of the next two years
playing local gigs and playing with Detroit local heroes The Hard
Lessons and Blind Shame.
But now it’s time to head to the next phase of the band’s evolution, the new record is firmly based in the straight ahead rock of their forefathers. Tracks such as “Too Busy” and “Scenestress” also have more southern rock moments along the lines of the Black Crowes. Lead singer and organist Paul Barning gives the band a dual attack through his play and belting vocals. The Faces’ comparisons definitely come into play on the cut “Anita,” where you can hear where Rod Stewart influencing an early Barning in his youth. The band plays its first date leading up to the new record this Thursday (December 27th) as they open for the Singles at the Pike Room at the Crofoot in Pontiac. Hotness picks up the pace with shows in Chicago and Toledo later in the winter. Hotness will also have their record release party for 3rd Time’s A Charm at Small’s in Hamtramack on January 19th. If you’re in the mood for a solid taste of classic rock melded with the new, Hotness is totally for you. We can only hope that for success in the local scene and beyond that the 3rd time's a charm for Hotness. . |
