Lamb of God and
Killswitch Engage may grab more headlines, but San
Diego’s As I Lay Dying has quietly one of the biggest names in
the metal world. The band, lead by ferocious lead singer Tim
Lambesis is out on tour behind their new record, An Ocean
Between Us. The band, formed in 2001, has built up a following of new school metalheads looking
for the riffs of metal yesteryear mixed with the brutal vocals that
the new school bands have. The first bit of exposure in the metal
world with their 2003 album, Frail Words Collapse and
their single “94 Words” getting massive airplay in the
resurgence of the MTV show “Headbangers Ball.” In 2005,
the band were one of the big names on the second stage at OzzFest.
The stage was set for
their current album, which debuted in August. A major surprise for
the band and their fans came when the album debuted on the Billboard
Album Charts at #8 on their opening week. The single “Within
Destruction” has been all over satellite radio and “Headbangers
Ball” since its release. The band did a few warmup dates on
this year’s Warped Tour before getting ready for their proper
tour.
The band’s fall/winter tour features the satisfying and pummeling All That
Remains, which will get the solos going in full blast with songs like
“The Weak Willed” and “Six.” Along for the
ride are Haste The Day and Through The Eyes of the Dead.
The band hits Clutch
Cargo’s in Pontiac on Thursday, November 15th. If
you want to get your air guitar going on and see one of the tightest
live bands in metal, check out As I Lay Dying and All That Remains
for a double dose of pure modern metal.
As I Lay Dying
will be playing at Clutch Cargos this Thursday (November 15th).
