ImageAfter their Warped Tour stint where they stood out in a sea of emo, Tiger Army headed back out on the road for their “Razor’s Kiss” tour, giving the band a more captive and attentive audience that could hear more from the band than the usual Warped time allotment of 30 minutes. The Los Angeles band Tiger Army proved that their “psychobilly” brand of music is ready for the masses as the trio jammed through a 75-minute set during a blustery and windy night in Detroit.

Lead by flat-top coiffed lead singer Nick 13, the band dove into their strong four album catalog and kept the nearly full crowd at St. Andrew’s into each other. Even though the band moved through tracks like “Never Die” and “Cupid’s Victim,” much of the set focused in on material from the band’s new record, Music From Regions Beyond. The new record is quite potentially their most streamlined and accessible work. But probably the least surprising factor of the evening was the intensity of the fans, as everybody got sweaty and a couple of fans even left a little bloodied; always a sign of a good time.

Some Tiger Army fans have seemed puzzled with the new record, but their concerns are unfounded after witnessing their live set. Certainly when played live, tracks like “Pain” and “Ghosts of Memory” sounds like a slight stylistic change but still kept the band’s core sound intact. The highlight track and first single of the album, “Forever Fades Away” is just as strong live as on the record and comes off sounding way more mature than most of the material on the radio today. In Tiger Army’s, a little bit of a change can only help the band grow for the future and perhaps get their shot at a big time breakthrough. .
