ImageLast Year, After Dark Films presented the first annual Horrorfest, subtitled 8 Films to Die For. The festival featured films that were not widely released and likely only seen in theaters in this festival. Some were okay. A few were pretty good. Most were just plain awful.

But the festival did help to prove that horror is being taken more seriously. Horror is a legitimate form of expression and not just an easy way to make money off of cheap scares and gratuitous gore. Granted, there are still those confused soles who do attempt the latter. But there are enough artists attempting the former to keep the genre going strong. As Halloween arrives, make your plans for Horrorfest 2007. It will take place after Halloween, as it did last year.

Last year, Horrorfest was only one weekend. This year, the festival is expanded to two weekends as After Dark Films will release 8 Films to Die for in over 350 theaters across the Untied States. Films will be shown November 9-11 and 16-18. Find out more info at: http://www.horrorfestonline.com/ and find a list of Michigan theaters that are screening the 8 Films to Die For including the Emagine Theater in Novi, the AMC Southfield and the AMC Forum 30.
You may want to check out my review of the 2006 films here. I’d still watch them all again. I love the concept of a horror film tour. So even though I didn’t like all the films, it’s still pretty cool to have seen them all. Here’s hoping 2007 is even better.

Also, since it's Halloween, check out my Zombie Trifecta, Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 and my review of The Host. .
