Michigan-Made Movies Kalamazoo? and Trap in theaters this month

Looking for some independent film? How about two independent films both made in Michigan?

Kalamazoo?

Kalamazoo? was filmed in the titular city by Motion Picture Institute of Michigan film school graduate Matt Molitor. The story, a comedy, follows three women as they attend their 10-year high school reunion. They attempt to prevent a time capsule from being opened so that their unfulfilled aspirations are not revealed.
The film has an impressive cast of well-known actors. This includes Mayim (Blossom) Bialik, Michael (Spin City) Boatman and Dee (Cujo, The Howling, E.T.) Wallace. It is nice to see big-name actors on a feature film shot entirely in Michigan. Since I graduated from the Motion Picture Institute of Michigan, it also impresses me that a fellow alumnus is on the crew.
Kalamazoo is premiering at the Emagine Theater in Novi on Friday, October 26 and will play for at least one week.

I have previously reviewed this film (see review) about husbands and wives killing each other. This film is also a feature film entirely shot in Michigan. It was previously screened at festivals including The San Francisco Independent Film Festival, The Flint Film Festival and the New York Cinema Market. It also had screenings at Emagine Novi. It will have a one-night only screening on Tuesday, October 30 at the Main Art Theatre in Royal Oak.

Please support independent film, especially those made in Michigan. I’m still hoping Detroit will be the next L.A., New York, Chicago or Toronto for film making. Take the time to check out these movies to help this happen and to see some really good films. .
