After playing many of the major U.S. festivals this
year (Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, etc), New York singer/songwriter Regina Spektor is
heading out on her headlining theatre tour. After beating around
dives in New York City for a few years, Spektor
finally
breaks through with her new record Begin to Hope.
The Russian born songwriter started touring in 2003 behind her record
Soviet Kitsch and brings an almost jazzy and bluesy sound on both of
her releases. But where people and some critics took notice was when Spektor
worked with hipster kings the Strokes on a B-side for a record called “Modern
Girls & Old Fashioned Men.” From there, record companies took notice.
Spektor’s sound has been compared to Fiona Apple and Tori Amos, but without the tantrums of Apple or the self-loathing of Amos. Begin To Hope started getting Spektor radio play, and the occasional VH1 or MTV2 spin of the video for “Fidelity” (which getting anything played these days is remarkable). She is just starting a theatre tour, which will last through November 20th. The show will hit the Fillmore Detroit this Wednesday, October 10th. During the tour, Spektor will also play the Bridge School Benefit in San Francisco in late October. So, if you didn’t get a chance to check her out at the festivals this summer, checking Regina out at the Fillmore will be your chance to see what critics everywhere are talking about. Regina Spektor plays the Fillmore Detroit on October 10th. Tickets are available at www.ticketmaster.com. Additional dates can be found at www.reginaspektor.com. |
