FRIDAYMushroomhead @ Harpos - The always travelling Cleveland collective enters the beginning of their second straight year on tour behind their Savior Sorrow album. Expect two stages of local and semi-national bands to rage at the always entertaining and wild east side hangout. Tickets are $15 and are available at www.ticketmaster.com. Paolo Nutini @ St. Andrew’s Hall - After appearances at Bonnaroo and the recent Austin City Limits festival, the Scot singer/songwriter is out on the road on his own. Nutini has toured most of 2007 behind his These Streets album. Nutini has received much love from the critics for his brand of mellow and catchy pop-rock. Tickets are $21.50 and are available at www.ticketmaster.com. Melvins @ Small’s - Want to know where Kurt Cobain and other grunge luminaries got their influences from? Go no further than the Seattle based Melvins, who have been going at it for two decades now. They are still touring their 2006 A Senile Animal record. Tickets are $15 and are available at www.smallsbardetroit.com. SATURDAY
Maroon 5 @ The Palace of Auburn Hills - Love
‘em or hate ‘em, the California quintet is proving their success was no fluke,
with their It Won’t Be Soon Before Long album being one of the few album
success stories this year. And compared to the sea of Disney teen pop and
ringtone rap, Maroon 5 stands out in the pop world for being just a hell of a
lot smoother than its contemporaries. This is the opening night of the band’s
two month tour and features the odd pairing of the way entertaining Swedish
punk-rock The Hives.Tickets are $40.50 to $50.50 and are available at www.palacenet.com. The Red Chord (w/ Cannibal Corpse, Black Dahlia Murder, Goatwhore) @ Majestic Theatre - Opening for the death metal granddaddies in Cannibal Corpse and the local boys in Black Dahlia Murder, Boston’s The Red Chord could be the stand out band on the Metal Blade Anniversary Tour. The metal band is out touring behind their new Prey For Eyes record, which seems to be more ferocious than their previous release Clients. The sound of the new record is still intense and it seems like the rough production sound on past records has been worked out. Lead singer Guy Kozowyk’s vocals sound much more clean on tracks like “Send the Death Storm” and “Dread Prevailed.” But also check out past tracks like “Black Santa” and “Antman” for a taste of the fury. They’ll get you ready for the Norway meets Detroit sound of Black Dahlia Murder, sure to have their fans out in full force as well. Tickets are $20 and are available at www.ticketmaster.com.
Finger Eleven @ St. Andrew’s Hall - The new
You vs. Them vs. Me album is a bit of a stylistic departure, but the
Canadian group has quietly built up a reputation for big rock radio hits. The
first single off the new album, “Paralyzer,” has been a fixture on the modern
rock and Top 40 charts for months. Expect the Canadian crowd in full force for
one of that country’s biggest hitmakers.Tickets are $15 and are available at www.ticketmaster.com. SUNDAY Genesis @ The Palace of Auburn Hills - Back for their first tour since 1992, the mostly reunited Genesis returns for one of the biggest tours of the year. But unlike the massive hype behind the Police tour, Genesis has sold a large number of tickets for their Palace show very quietly. Expect a two and a half hour show, hitting on the band’s ridiculous amount of hits from the 1980s. But for those expecting ex-Genesis member Peter Gabriel, he is sitting this one out (probably to solve some African famine issue or something). But according to the band, you never know if having a full reunion is the next step. Tickets range from $59 to $203 and are available at www.palacenet.com. |
