Back in January, MyCityBuzz put the spotlight on Metric
lead singer
Emily
Haines when she was out doing a solo tour with her band, the Soft Skeleton.
Now, Haines is back with her main band and is on the road. Hailing from Toronto,
Metric mixes new wave, punk-infused rock and electronic beats into a crowd
pleasing brand of modern rock. The band has evolved into a new-wavish sound with
more recent tracks such as “Dead Disco” and the highly upbeat “Monster Hospital”
which may just be the catchiest thing the band has done to this point. The band
touches on synths and beats straight out of the glory days of the new wave era
as tracks like “Succexy” and “Poster of A Girl” would have sounded at home then
as it does now. Haines’ vocals on the Metric songs are just as haunting and
majestic as they are on her solo record. The band has recently re-released their 1999 debut record Grow Up and Blow Away, which on songs like “Hardwire” and “Raw Sugar” borrowed a lot from groups like Portishead and other late 90s Brit electro-pop groups. Metric’s evolution is an interesting one, and now seem more comfortable in their surroundings. The band has actually opened for the Rolling Stones in New York City and has raided the Canadian Juno Awards for years now. The band is currently getting to work on their next record, with writing and recording finishing by the end of October. The band is expected to have the release out sometime early in 2008 on Last Gang Records. But it seems as if Metric is tired of the recording process and heading out on the road for a three week tour. The tour will hit Detroit on Monday, September 24th at St. Andrew’s Hall, and the Canadian as well as American fans of Metric will be out in full force. It’s almost guaranteed that the band will touch on some new material, as well as the fan favorites. Make sure you check it out so you can tell your friends you were one of the first to hear the new songs. Metric will play at St. Andrews Hall on Monday, September 24th. Tickets are $15 and are available at www.ticketmaster.com. Additional dates are available at www.ilovemetric.com. . |
