FRIDAY The Dear & Departed @ St. Andrew’s
Hall - The Orange County modern rock outfit is forging out a new wave
sound. The band is influenced by groups like The Cure and Jesus and Mary Chain
versus the scores of alternative bands ripping off new wave groups left and
right. The band’s debut Something Quite Peculiar was released back in May
and the band played numerous dates on the Warped Tour.
Lead singer Dan Under’s vocals and musical stylings echo Robert Smith at times, but the new wave tendencies come out way more than the goth ones do. A lot of that was to do with the production from Chris Vrenna, who has worked with U2 and Nine Inch Nails, just to name a few. Check out songs like “Masquerade” and “Hometown Hero” for a taste of this band’s sophisticated sound. The band is currently on tour with Within Temptation, who Roadrunner Records has high expectations for this year. Tickets are $15 and are available at www.ticketmaster.com. SATURDAY The Bled @ The Fillmore Detroit -The
Arizona band is just fresh of the Projekt Revolution and was just here a few
weeks ago. As soon as that tour ended, the band was now hopped on the fall
tour with The Used. The metal band is gearing up for a busy fall, touring
through at least December and preparing for the release of their Silent
Treatment album, due out September 25th on Vagrant Records.
Tracks like “You Should Be Ashamed Of Myself” hit with a vigor that will rile up the fans and keep their interest for the fans of the recently reissused Pass The Flask album. Expect some fists wailing and pits brought to life as The Bled punishes Detroit for the second time in the last 30 days, giving The Used a run for their money. The Bled opens for The Used. Tickets are $25 and are available at www.ticketmaster.com. SUNDAY Blaqk Audio @ St. Andrew’s Hall - If you
were a little bummed that AFI didn’t tour Detroit a little more behind their
Decemberunderground album, you are not alone. After a trip to the 89X Birthday
Bash in June 2006, the band toured relentlessly, but Detroit wasn’t on their
radar. Well, singer Davey Havok and Jade Puget are trying to make it up to
Detroit with an early stop on their electronic side project tour. Their new
sound is more reminiscent of early Depeche Mode and sounds like a refreshing
time warp to that period. The group’s release, CexCells, debuted inside the
Billboard Top 20 back in August.
Tickets are $23 and are available at www.ticketmaster.com |
