ImageAfter the attention grabbing Rage Against the Machine/Wu-Tang Clan co-headlining of the Rock The Bells shows in New York and California, 12 additional dates were added to the list. Unfortunately, Rage wont be a part of the other 12 dates, but Rock The Bells will deliver one of the most solid hip-hop lineups in recently memory.
The legendary hip-hop collective Wu-Tang Clan will top the bill. Does a group like Wu-Tang really need any introduction? Didn’t think so. The eight member deep group has gone through some struggles in the past few years, including the death of original member ‘Ol Dirty Bastard. ODB, or whatever name he was dubbing himself as, was always the entertaining and quite unpredictable force of the group. Now that Method Men is done trying to take over television and RZA is done scoring the Kill Bill movies, Wu-Tang is back and gearing up to release their upcoming album 8 Diagrams, now due out in the fall.

Nas will co-headline this bill and sent shockwaves through the hip-hop community with the title of his latest album, Hip-Hop Is Dead. The Queensbridge, New York lyricist condemns the state of modern hip-hop on his last record, but with the title track and others like “Black Republican”, it became Nas’ strongest record in years. But expect plenty of old cuts from Illmatic and It Was Written as well.

Also on the bill is the other half of the hip-hop supergroup Black Star, Talib Kweli and Kool Keith’s latest creation, MF Doom. David Banner is an intriguing add as well. With his profane party jams on display, he may stick out on the bill like a sore thumb.

But if you’re looking for a little bit of hip-hop’s past and burgeoning future, head up to Rock The Bells and see what most of modern hip-hop is missing.

Tickets are still available for the Detroit Rock The Bells show, playing at DTE Energy Music Theatre on Wednesday, August 29th. Tickets are $42.50 for pavilion and $20 for lawn and are available at www.palacenet.com.
