Trying to find some peace and quiet on a major summer tour can be a task, as Five Finger Death Punch drummer Jeremy Spencer already knows. The
band is a part of the massive Rockstar Mayhem Tour, which amassed
such a good lineup this year that the mighty OzzFest tour quivered
and reduced itself a one-day festival in Dallas. The L.A. based band has seen a
major rise in the rock world due to their hit single “The
Bleeding.” We talked about that rise, some crowds and other things.
Here is the interview with Jeremy:
MyCityBuzz: How is this tour
different from the Family Values Tour (which FFDP played last
year)?
Jeremy Spencer: It’s great because last year on Family Values,
it was the band’s first ever major tour so people weren’t
too familiar. This year at Mayhem, people know who we are now. We’ve
met a lot of cool people and that got to meet some great bands as
well. It’s been a great experience because we’re a bit
more established now.
MCB: Have there been any
surprises for you on the tour?
JS: Yeah, I have been impressed with Airbourne. They’re kinda different from everyone
else on the bill. It’s more really metal, it’s more hard
rock. You have all these bands and this band comes out of left field
with this party music. It’s great stuff.
MCB: Are you happy with
the band’s trajectory of success so far? |

Leave Brett Farve Alone |

After all, he "just wants to play football," right? Right? Brett Farve... leave US alone. You've been holding the Packers hostage for years, but you've finally succeeded on holding the rest of football loving Americans hostage now as well. I think I speak for the rest of us when we say stop. We can't take anymore Farvecenter, Pardon the Farve-terruption, and Around the Farve. You're driving us nuts. Except for the guys that are considering you as a keeper on their fantasy squads, no one outside of Green Bay cares anymore. You wanted to come back, then you wanted to start, then you wanted to be traded, then you wanted to compete for the Packers starting QB spot, then you wanted to be traded to the NFC North only (as long as it's the Bears or Vikings), then you want to part ways with the team, then you say it's OK to be traded to the Bucs, or the Jets, or wherever.
Let's not forget about the $20 million marketing deal that the Packers offered for you to go away. Take the deal Brett, just go away! Look, you were probably the greatest quarterback to ever play the game. You have a Super Bowl win, you have all the records, you have a ton of money. I know you "just want to play football," but what | | No comments for this item |

Review - Dirt Fest 2008 @ Birch Run Expo Center 8.2.8 |

Usually, areas like
Flint and Saginaw are under-represented when it comes to metal shows unless you count an occasional 70s
metal show rolling through the local county fairgrounds. But this past weekend, Dirtfest 2008 took over the Birch Run Expo Center which was transformed into an underground metal mecca
for one day as over 60 bands took to 6 stages to show who the biggest
and baddest under the radar band was... with some startling results.
Local bands did make up
a sizeable majority of the bands on the bill, with many Detroit bands
making the hour and a half trip up I-75 with bands from the Lansing and Grand
Rapids areas making the voyage to Dirtfest as well. But the most attention was paid
to the “Thrash and Burn” Tour, featuring Darkest Hour, that made its Michigan stop and took over the Dirtfest main stage. So, instead of giving a
blow by blow account of everything that went on, we weaved through
the sea of hardcore kids, here are the intriguing notes of DirtFest
2008:

Artist Spotlight - Velvet Elvis |

Do you like Velvet? Do you like Elvis? Then you’ll love Velvet Elvis! Okay, so that’s not necessarily true. But if you like funk, you should. No, I don’t mean funk like stinky feet. But that couldn’t hurt. I mean funk music like George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic, James Brown, Sly and the Family Stone, Prince, Morris Day and the Time, Kool and The Gang and even The Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Velvet Elvis is Velvet Cornelius Patrick Swayze III, Professor Gorgeous and Nappy Jones, JR303. They are a Michigan-based band. They site the hottest ladies on the planet, beer, Swiss Cake Rolls, Conway Twitty’s hair, White Castle and strip clubs amongst their influences. I think they are funktastic. See for yourself now by checking them out online at: http://www.myspace.com/thevelvetelvis1 Or better yet, check them out live. Watch their MySpace page for regular updates on live performances. Their next show is Friday, August 8 at 9pm at Simon’s in Allen Park. I know they will deliver a funking good time!

Interview w/ Kyle Johnson of Misery Signals |
|

Saturday, 02 August 2008 |
Just arriving to a
venue in Springfield, Missouri, the Milwaukee based band Misery
Signals is gearing up with some headlining dates before the “Thrash
and Burn” tour with Darkest Hour. That tour brings the bands to
the Dirtfest in Birch Run this Saturday (August 2nd). We
had a chance to talk with bassist Kyle Johnson before the show, and
here’s what he had to say:
About fairly new lead
singer Karl Schubach’s input with the new record versus the
last: “I think the album was recorded in the same way, where we
were in Milwaukee and Karl went home (to Sasketwchan) to write the
lyrics. But if there was a major difference this time, Karl had more
input musically and took care of most of the lyrics, where as last
time, it was Karl and Ryan (Morgan- guitarist) did most of it last
time.
On what the new singer
brings to the table: “I think his vocals are more brutal than
our previous singer. He has better command of the stage and can move
around more than our last guy. He’s a bit more energetic
singer, which helps during the set."
On the scene in
Milwaukee as the band was coming up: “When I was in my first
band (7 Angels 7 Plagues), the scene was far better than it is now.
When we first started Misery Signals, I noticed that the scene there
was beginning to die out. It was good to get on the road around the
country just as the scene there was going downhill.”
On their best summer
touring experience: “We really |
